Book Presentation of Only the Earth Will Come to Our Rescue in Brussels
On December 9, Anny Romand, French actress and author of Armenian origin, presented the book Only the Earth Will Come to Our Rescue – Diary of a Deportee of the Armenian Genocide (Serpouhi Hovaghian & Raymond Kévorkian) in Brussels, during an event organized by the Jonathas Institute and the Committee of Armenians of Belgium.
This presentation was part of the course The Century of the Holocaust and Genocides, taught by Professor Joël Kotek at the Université libre de Bruxelles.
Published with the support of the Francis Kurkdjian Endowment Fund, the book reproduces the diary kept by Serpouhi Hovaghian, a young Armenian deported in 1915, written in Armenian, French, and Greek during her time in hiding. Restored, translated, and edited by the Bibliothèque nationale de France, with the expertise of Raymond Kévorkian, this rare testimony is a major historical source on the Armenian genocide and an important tool for passing memory on to future generations.
