In its 2023 report on accessibility and disability, Arcom highlighted the underrepresentation of people with disabilities in audiovisual programmes: they account for 17% of the French population, but represent only 1% of people seen on screen.

With KLACH!, Courts Devant has developed a short-film production programme designed as a practical tool for inclusion, knowledge-sharing and the transformation of audiovisual practices.

KLACH! invites film crews to make a short film in one month, based on a set theme and a specific filmmaking constraint. One essential rule underpins each project: to include a substantial role for an actor with a disability. The assigned theme deliberately makes no reference to disability, avoiding the tendency to define artists solely by their disability and enabling them to portray characters of all kinds.

The programme is based on a hands-on, project-based approach. By working together to make films, technical crews, directors, screenwriters and disabled performers engage with every stage of the filmmaking process: writing, preparation, shooting, acting, directing and distribution. This immersion in real-world production conditions encourages mutual learning, professional connections and a shift in perspectives.

Already established in Caen, Lyon and Paris in 2025, KLACH! aims to expand its reach in 2026 to three new regions: Brittany, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and Grand Est.

The films produced through the programme will subsequently be screened for industry professionals and the wider public, notably as part of the KLACH! National Day. This stage is essential to giving the films visibility, creating professional opportunities and embedding inclusion more permanently within audiovisual practices.

By supporting KLACH!, the Francis Kurkdjian Endowment Fund is supporting a project that takes concrete action to improve the representation of people with disabilities on screen. It contributes to making cinema a space for encounter, learning and empowerment, where every talent can find their place and bring stories to the screen that transcend limiting assumptions and stereotypes.
